Angele Long Beach Concert reviews
Great show for real fans
"Mr. Corgan respects the age old adage, "Give the fans what they want." This show is for true Pumpkins fans and not the casual listener hoping to relive the first time he/she heard 1979 on the radio. It's a long concert, but never boring thanks to incredible musicianship, lighting, video, props, costumes, and Billy's signature voice which sounded amazing! Not only are the core Smashing Pumpkins songs present (1979, Bullet With Butterfly Wings, Tonight Tonight, Zero, and Today) but we're treated to some unique covers (Stairway to Heaven, Landslide) and some lesser known deeper cuts (To Sheila, Blew Away). One of the most memorable moments, for me, was a surprisingly poignant cover of "Baby Mine" from the 1941 film, Dumbo. I was astounded at the solid production and trippy visual elements. I became a fan as a teenager in the early 1990s and have been a fan since. So when I heard of Jimmy and James' return to the fold, I was ecstatic and hoping that this show would fulfill my reunion hope's and dreams. I was not disappointed. This heart wrenching lullaby features "Pope Billy" (you'll see what I mean if you go) and drummer Jimmy Chamberlain on ukulele. I was amazed at the amazing show, ending with a beautiful way."
